Toronto Maple Leafs 1967 Stanley Cup Final Game – In 1967, the “original six” came to an end as the Toronto Maple Leafs celebrated their fourth Stanley Cup in six seasons. The following season, the NHL expanded from six to twelve teams. Toronto defeated the defending Stanley Cup champions the Chicago Blackhawks in 1962, Detroit in 1963 and 1964, and the Montreal Canadiens in 1967.
The Maple Leafs went through a difficult decade after winning the Stanley Cup in 1951, but the team enjoyed a resurgence with the arrival of Punch Imlach. By bringing the young prospects of the Toronto Marlboros and Toronto St. Michael’s Majors and smartly acquired legends, the Maple Leafs reached the Stanley Cup Finals in 1959 and 1960 before going to consecutive Stanley Cups.

Eight honorary members have played in each of Toronto’s four championships: George Armstrong (1975), goaltender Johnny Ball (1976), Tim Horton (1977), Red Kelly (1969), Dave Cohen (1986), Frank Mahovlich (1981), Bob Pulford (1991) and Alan Stanley (1981). Other players who contributed to the dynasty include Andy Bathgate (1978), Dick Duff (2006), Bert Olmstead (1985), Marcel Pronovost (1978) and Terry Sawchuk (1971). Inducted into the Builders Hall of Fame (1996). Punch Imlach was also chosen as a builder (1984) for his team supervision role.

On June 6, 1962, seven weeks after the Maple Leafs won their first championship since 1951, the wreckage of Bill Barilko’s plane was found in the thick bush of northern Ontario. Barilco was a player in the team that won the cup in 1951, but died in a plane crash a few months later.
With the team trailing Detroit 3-2 in the 1964 Stanley Cup Final, Toronto defenseman Bob Baun was carted off the ice after being hit in the right ankle by Gordie Howe’s shot. But Bowen came back and was the hero, hitting a shot past Terry Sawchuk 1:40 into overtime. Bowen played in Game 7, which Toronto won 4-0 to take the championship. After the game he went for an X-ray, which showed a broken foot.
During the 1966-67 season, the Maple Leafs hit a 10-game losing streak, and Ponch Imlage had to take some time to recover from injuries and stress. King Clancy was behind the bench for the Maple Leafs, who went 7-1-2 during that stretch, made the playoffs and stayed there. When Punch returned, the Maple Leafs were more relaxed and a new winning attitude led them to victory. Exactly 50 years ago today, on May 2, 1967, the Toronto Maple Leafs and Montreal Canadiens met in Game 6 of the Stanley Cup Finals. The game is played at Maple Leaf Gardens. The Maple Leafs beat the Habs 3-2 to win the championship.
Going into the 3rd round, Toronto shut down their opponents and took a two-goal lead. Ron Ellis and Jimmy Papin were the hosts. But at 5:28 of the final frame, former Leaf player Dick Duff pulled the Canadians within a goal.

After the Maple Leafs were called to the ice, coach Troy Black brought in Worsley for an extra lead at 7:05 p.m.

The last to pass is legendary defenseman Bobby Baun, a member of the Tim Hortons team limping to score in overtime. He was 86 years old.
Now, Bowen and the rest of the Leafs started six defensemen – Tim Horton, Aaron Stanley, Marcel Pronovost, Larry Hillman, Kent Douglas – Unfortunately, they are all gone.
Stanley was the team’s veteran, turning 41 that season. Horton was 37, Pronovost was 36, Douglas was 31, and the children (if you want to call them) were Bowen and Hillman, then 30.
Johnny Bower’s age is often questioned, apparently he was 42 in 1967, while his fellow goaltender Terry Sawchuk was only 37. Both are long dead.

The only players from the ’67 Maple Leafs left to share their story are the 1967 Under 30 – Dave Keon, Frank Mahovlich, Bob Pulford Pulford, Ron Ellis, Pete Stemkowski, Mike Walton and Brian Conacher.
Ellis and Walton were the youngest players on the Leafs at 22 years old, Stemkovsky was 23, Konacher was 25, Cohen was 27 and Mahovich turned 29 in the middle of the season.
In this regard, it is almost as if it was kept in the past for those who witnessed the leaves of 67 and everything that seemed impossible since then. Now, although there are fewer players, our memories are still alive.

Try to explain David Craigie. I cant. He spent 15 seasons with the Boston Bruins and has statistics that may not be matched again. He never finished higher than 21st in any regular season. But he did lead the Stanley Cup playoffs in scoring twice. Not sure if anyone has done this
