Spain centre-back Carles Puyol, who scored the winner in the semi-final against Germany, retired in 2013 with 100 caps for La Roja. He ended his career as a team player with Barcelona in 2014.
The reigning World Cup winner won the European Championship in 2012 but missed out on major tournaments in 2014, 2016 and 2018 before stepping down from the national team. Iniesta left Barcelona to play in Japan for Vissel Kobe in 2018 with 133 appearances and 15 goals and is currently without a club.

Villa, who was Spain’s top scorer at the World Cup, battled through injuries to make the squad and retired with 59 goals in as many games. He won the Champions League with Barcelona before joining Atlético de Madrid, where he led the famous League title, Melbourne City, New York City FC and Vissel Kobe, where he retired after one season in 2019.
Xavi, a key midfielder for the Spanish national team, retired after 133 games in 2014 following the World Cup in Brazil, where Spain failed to get out of the group stage.
He left Barcelona in 2015 and played for Al Sadd for four years before leaving in 2019. He is now Barcelona’s manager and led them to La Liga in May.
After reaching the final, Torres had an impressive performance at Euro 2012, where he won the Golden Boot. He retired from the national team in 2014 with 110 caps, having played for Chelsea, AC Milan, Atlético de Madrid and Sagan Tosu (Japan), where he finished his career in 2019. He is currently a coach Atlético youth team.

Busquets, who was part of Alonso’s midfield side in 2010, will end his Spanish career in 2022 with 143 caps and was part of the squad that won Euro 2012. After 15 seasons with his boyhood club Barcelona, Busquets, 34, joined Inter Miami this summer.
