The good news is that we can make them better. The bad news is, it can be tough, folks. But it is definitely 100% worth it. After all, relationships are at the heart of our existence and teach us more than we could ever hope to learn on our own.
Having been married for 18 months, I wouldn’t consider myself anywhere near an expert in this field, but fortunately for me (and my relationship), many smart and knowledgeable people have written useful books that attempt to answer the perennial question: “How to build a relationship?”
It has a simple but powerful concept: each of us has one of five “love languages” that can be dominant, and many problems in our long-term romantic relationships stem from language mismatches. The good news is that we can easily learn our love language with our partner and learn to speak each other’s language.
In my (purely amateur) opinion, I don’t share the author’s belief that speaking the same language is enough for a relationship to thrive, but this book is an interesting read and offers a useful and practical perspective on simple improvements we can all make. It has to be done.
