As the following video shows, Be Our Guest is another replica of the animal shelter from the 1991 animated film You can share all three rooms – the large ballroom, which you’ll remember from the “Tale As Old as Time” dance scene; the gallery, which features a giant music box in the center, a stuffed Belle and the Beast dancing on a revolving pool; and The West Wing, AKA Animal Crossing, where he looked like an emo kid on paper slowly falling over the adorable Rose.
Apparently, the rose in the corner of the room drops a petal every 7 minutes. If it does, you’ll hear thunder – when you hear it, see a fragmented image of a prince in a robe. As the lightning flashes, the image becomes that of an animal. Go ahead and enjoy yourself.
Although Dole Whips, Mickey ice cream bars and turkey legs may have a following at the theme park, the chefs didn’t want to bring back the usual fare. Instead, they focus on the time and place of the film, sitting in a rustic, French kitchen to discover the town of Belle. Finally, they had to find a way to make the food more accessible (the restaurant serves up to 546 people at breakfast and lunch and 340 at dinner) – without offending the Francophiles.

“How do you make French cuisine for the American crowd in a way that reaches thousands of people?” asked Lenny DeGeorge, Disney’s executive director of food development. “You have to get down to the basics. The Croque Monsieur is basically an electric ham and cheese sandwich, so let’s do that and give it to people. That’s what gets them in the door.”
Croque Monsieur is still called Croque Monsieur, but the menu description clearly explains its contents, making it relatable to anyone who has never heard of a sandwich before. It became an instant hit with the guests.
You find them everywhere, just like you hide Mickeys in the park: painted on the backs of chairs, draped over the dining room, front and center in the Beauty and the Beast mosaic in the courtyard, on top of the pillars. Counting it all can be a fun game of “Spy” while you wait for your food.
Breakfast and lunch are fast-paced events where you order on the go using a touchscreen, grab your Rose Enchanted to take to your table, and your meals are magically (and by magically, we mean with followers of flower magic) delivered right to your seat. Dining is like a traditional restaurant, with table service. There’s no plastic wrap here, and the napkins are wrapped in roses (that’s another one, if you’re counting!). You’ll receive a basket of flowers while you wait for your food, and the menu ranges from sandwiches, salads and quiches to more traditional fare, such as ratatouille, dry ham and lamb chops.
When Disney first asked parents about their children’s meals, parents immediately said there was no way their favorite chicken could eat pork and vegetables. They then placed the food in front of the children in the center of attention, and were surprised to see how easily the children searched for it.
“They loved it,” said Jean-Marie Clement, director of food and beverage development at Disney. “A lot of times, the parents make the decisions for the kids, but when you can go to the kids, you’ll see it’s a lot more amazing than you think.”
– we ask you again! – a line in the song “Be Our Guest” that caught executive chef Stefan Riemer in developing the food: “Try the gray stuff / It’s delicious!” Although gray isn’t usually a good color for food, he tried to change people’s perception – and he did it without a drop of color.

Riemer stopped to make the black ice cream, and slowly mixed the cookies with chocolate chips and cocoa powder in the mixture until it turned gray. “The key is slow; the more air you blow, the easier it is,” he explained.
The end result looks like cookies and cream, and was actually intended as a dessert on the menu that you can’t order in a chocolate bowl; if you were celebrating a birthday or an anniversary, you will see unexpected things.
“The demand was so high we had to put it on the menu,” Riemer said. “People are always asking for it. They had to try it.”
At lunchtime, the good stuff on top of the cup, is decorated with pearls of edible chocolate – not the teeth you usually see in painting. Over time, the way gray is given can change. It is served as it is, as a doll rolled on a plate, on a square plate of chocolate cake, and, finally, on “cow cake” like cheesecake and chocolate cake – all with pearls decorated with chocolate.

You can make reservations up to 180 days in advance of your visit, and for places where your Guest may be in high demand, you can set up a reservation for 6:00 am EST in the morning – early enough to book – to secure a spot.
All three rooms have versions of the songs played in the film – in concert, it’s like a musical score; in the hall, they have the powerful sound of a full orchestra – and all together, so you can adjust the music in detail during your journey.
If you look closely at the wheels on the top of the Ball House, you will see how different and detailed their appearance is. It is said to be modeled after the children of the Imagineers who worked at the restaurant, so to speak
. A Disney representative couldn’t confirm this rumor for us, but considering how well the company does every aspect of its theme parks, we wouldn’t be surprised if it’s true.
