Disney may not have invented the midquel concept (a sequel that takes place between the time period of an original work, not before or after it), but with their direct-to-video series, I swear they did. So. The only studio that uses the concept extensively. is

, which was actually a collection of episodes made for a TV spin-off that never existed in the original film’s timeline.)

The sequel, it was one of the few direct-to-video sequels my family grew up with, and I remember my sister and I proudly saying we had “the only good Disney sequel.” Don’t know about that, there aren’t many of them to begin with, and they’re all pretty bad in terms of quality.

In particular, it’s probably the worst of the four films we have (I’ve seen the others, admittedly), especially considering the quality of the films it contains.

Remember, now, the first film was the first animated film to be nominated for a Best Picture Academy Award, and that would remain until the release of the Pixar film.

However, he fails to remember Bell’s life in the castle as primarily a glamorous prisoner, offering instead a revised story of the former being strong, willful and selfish. Conscience about whether she should keep it. He promised the Beast that he would either stay within the castle walls or go into the forest (again in the path of the hungry wolves, I might add since apparently Belle was really stupid) to find a Christmas tree to cheer him up.

Told as a magical flashback to the post-Winter season where Belle and the Beast’s romance began, the time spent between the lines of “There’s Something” is revealed to be time spent together, celebrating or not. About the celebration. Christmas reintroduces us to all the original characters (and almost all of their original voice actors, except for Chip, now voiced by a much younger Haley Joel Osment), and we’re also introduced to some new friends. Gone are those who never were. appears Anywhere in the previous film. There are obviously Jewish wrestler names… Axe, a French Christmas angel, and former castle decorator Angelique (one of three characters in the franchise who actually have an accent, despite being set in France), one named Fort. Ugly and ominous pipe organ, and its chicken fife, it’s actually a piccolo. … I think they didn’t want people to confuse him with that.

Forte plays the film’s main villain, and all this confusion has left the Beast somewhat depressed, leading him to listen to Forte’s dark and depressing musings. . A lot in the past when he was a man. Unfortunately for him, Belle’s presence at the castle has recently caused the Beast to be overjoyed, and with the holiday season upon us, both Joey and Goodwill are sure to fall in love and break the curse. So, like most Christmas villains, he plans to stop them all by either removing the bell or stopping Christmas from happening – something the Beast is already tempted to do, since he’s cursed that very day. Castle and he can’t bear to be reminded of it. Of course, Forte and Fife’s machinations disrupt the event, and the budding romance between the two protagonists is, of course, at stake, but given what we know of the first film’s ending, it’s ultimately a no-brainer. It doesn’t matter. For us in the audience.

So the film focuses more on what happens to the characters that we have never seen. While most of the non-Beast characters spend the film alternating between excitement for the holiday and depression caused by the repeated cancellation of the holiday, the Beast is hot and cold about whether he can restore the Christmas spirit to Belle. Since this is a Christmas movie at the castle, where the events of Christmas are woven around the events of Christmas because we know that two characters in love will eventually fall in love, we know that it will be Christmas at the end. . So, it’s all up to Axe, Angelique, Forte, and Fife to provide good old-fashioned Jewish gentlemen with a good laugh even during the holidays, not to mention Hanukkah once.

Angelique mirrors the Beast in a big way – his refusal to celebrate upsets the Christmas Angel at the prospect of being able to use his abilities again for the holidays, locking him in the castle attic. Leave your place, go where I’ve been Stored since the curse was first laid. Fife provides a more forgiving comic relief chicken character, so you know where the story is going. As a result, Forte is the most interesting of the group, as it is open to question whether he will be redeemed or simply become a villain.

Tim Curry does a great job of voicing Forte as expected and it has to be said that his character is also well crafted. One would think that it would give the original theatrical release a bit more polish. However, his motivations as presented are decidedly shallow and petty. Forte, a former court musician, is primarily jealous that the prince has never really appreciated him or his dark deeds, and he doesn’t want Belle to steal the young man’s thunder because he can’t stand it for a while. Yeah, there seems to be some kind of subtext going on there that you don’t want to consider.

Often, considering that the castle is quite old and the prince quite young, all these characters seem to have a long history in the castle. It’s hard to ignore, though, and Curry doesn’t shy away from his role. The result is a villain as dark yet funny as only Curry could play, and I think that’s what the film has. I can’t say much about the other characters, including Angelique, because almost all of them are window dressing in the new story. I’m not sure Paul Robbins’ Little Fife is as effective as Bad Chicken, so no harm, no offense.

At least there’s a song, right? Well… yes, but you won’t find anything close to the quality of the real thing here. Broadway pomp gives way to nursery rhyme-level tunes that list all the wonderful things you can enjoy this time of year or compliment your general belief in Christmas. Do what the creature says, regardless of what it means. It could be said (maybe it’s best not to have Hanukkah involved?) There’s also a random song about the wonderful world of books that Bell sings:

I don’t know about you, but in a world where a vengeful witch casts a spell on all the inhabitants of a great castle and turns them into household goods for their work, you might wonder if such magic exists. A strange romantic idea. will happen. Seen as insensitive, right? In this world, fairies often resemble human-eating fairies.

. Wicked’s song about not loving and loving yourself instead is pretty funny, at least in the wrong context. Original lyrics:

I admit there are some other positives. The animation, while not as good as the original, is at least pretty good, coming from a very small TV-based studio within Disney. The story takes such a dark turn that I don’t think I actually thought it was almost subjectively true – you know, before it took the easy way out and made things nice and easy. Had to go back. As mentioned earlier, Forte is also an interesting villain, and Fife is… not a Fife villain
