Like yoga or cooking, candle making has become a form of anxiety therapy for me. I’ve made a lot of perfumes over the past few years because the joy I get from trying new perfumes, porcelains, and soy candles has helped me recover from burns.

Buying all the supplies and experimenting with candles can be expensive – especially if it’s just an occasional hobby – so if you’re just starting out, I highly recommend trying out the all-in-one candle box before buying kilos of product. I have tried many things through trial and error and discovered that some are actually worth the expense. So *drumroll please* these are the best candle boxes I’ve come across in 2024.
Beginner Candle Kit
This package is incredible value. For just $42 you have almost everything you need to make four 7oz candles. (Like TJ Maxx candle prices!) You can use this set to invite some friends and host your own candle making party. The only things missing are a jug and an egg; It’s a solid investment considering there will be more candles down the road, and you can get them for an extra $19.
The coconut-soy wax blend is easy to stop scenting, and you can customize your kit to include either of the two scented products (blue volcano fans will want to check out the Sugared Mango and Grapefruit Mangosteen duo!) plus your choice. candle color (if white is too plain for your taste) and colored bottle.
Want a package that already comes with a digital thermometer? This box gets you covered with a cotton swab, wick glue, and enough essential oils and scents to fill a 12-ounce glass bottle. You can choose from four scents, although I’m partial to Pacific Moss & Mist. A beach without sea salt, above the coconut trees.
The instructions are easy to follow, but instead of pouring the oil into a bowl and setting it over a pot of drinking water, I used a pouring jug to double dip. (I do not recommend making candles for the meals you will cook and eat later.) The candle you buy gives off a lot of heat, can easily fill a bathroom or bedroom, and looks special. There is some drainage which suggests the boat is not big enough for the boat, but other than that it’s pretty nice.

My siblings make one of my favorite candle scents of all time – Nope. 13 is a delicious combination of palo santo, marshmallow creme and burnt sugar – but if that’s not your style, there are plenty more to choose from. All kits are low-effort, low-vacuum: Just tear open the bag, remove the wand, mark the candle, quick assembly and instructions, and then place the sweet-smelling bag in the microwave. Once thawed, you place the herbs in a warming container of your choice (or you can buy reusable Forever Cups), using popsicle sticks with a hole in the middle to hold the cotton.
Once melted, pour the oil into the bowl and wait for it to dissolve or solidify. Well.
If you’ve seen Makesy (formerly Wooden Wick Co.) on Instagram or YouTube, you’ve probably experienced their beauty. The brand’s marketing is top-notch and draws you in to its beautiful packaging and ingredients. But it can be scary to start ordering kilos of oils and everything else from them; Plus, this adds up fast. That’s what makes this Starter Kit so great; It’s packed with the essentials you need to get started, all stored in a large jug that you can reuse later.
Candle Experience With The Prickly Pinecone
The kit comes with everything you need to make nine-ounce wooden candlesticks in black and gold metal boxes (they look a lot fancier than the “metal” indicates). And that includes one of their most popular flavors, Vanilla Gelato and Waffle Cone. The scent was a little lighter than the other boxes and there was a bridge to beeswax, but overall she makes beautiful candles that will have you dreaming of opening your own Etsy shop. Or maybe that’s just me.
I got my kit from Michaels, but they don’t seem to be manufactured there, but you can still buy them at Hobby Lobby.

The price of candles may seem cheap, especially if you’re buying lots of accessories, but you should also consider the initial costs of the materials you’ll need and the test price if you’re looking beyond using a box to make your own blends. Blend to find your signature recipe (or ratio of oil, essential oil, and carrier for them).

Cargill’s NatureWax C-3 soy wax is an all-natural soy wax blend known for its good bottle adhesion (low moisture content), low freezing, and good aroma. Among the various soy waxes we tested, we found NatureWax C-3 to be the highest quality candle wax, and it’s incredibly easy to work with.
Each candle making kit includes instructions on how to make candles using the oven (double grill) and melting and pouring (microwave). Both are very easy to understand. We provide step-by-step instructions on how to use both methods.
