So how about recommending these drinks? Do they really increase milk production? Do you need them for successful breastfeeding? What about these drinks that can increase milk production?

Moms believe these drinks work because they can help treat one of the causes of low milk production – when that cause is dehydration. Anyone who has ever taken care of a toddler knows that some days it’s easy to forget that you have to feed yourself. Add to that the calorie needs and fluid intake required for breastfeeding, and it can be very easy for a mother to become dehydrated. Breastfeeding is usually successful, most mothers have an adequate milk supply, but almost every mother I have ever met hasn’t had too many questions about their milk supply. So in this case you are panicking. Remember someone said these drinks might help, so grab one and start praying for the milk fairy to come back. When you are dehydrated, your body recovers and replenishes supplies. The electrolytes in these drinks help faster than regular water and the sugar in these drinks provides a pleasant release of dopamine, which helps calm you down and also increases milk flow.

That said, if you like these drinks and aren’t breaking your budget, you can safely indulge. Sometimes a mother needs a good drink.

I still have no explanation as to why Blue Gatorade has a better reputation than any other color or flavor. If anyone knows the origin, I’d love to hear it!
