Hip Hop Dance Lessons San Diego – Angie Bunch is a hip-hop pioneer. As hip-hop music moved into the mainstream, professional musician and dancer Nike traded in his jazz shoes for sneakers. He began exploring a new form of self-expression – hip-hop dancing – and created an opportunity for other dancers to do the same.
He started the Culture Shock Training Academy in 1993, supported by his sponsorship of Nike, to bring together artists who are interested in art. His goal is the development of self, respect and honor through the power of music.

“When Culture Shock was created 30 years ago, I don’t think we would call it hip-hop today. It was a way of dancing, and it was athletic and energetic and empowering, and it seemed to have impacting some communities that need a voice,” he said. “It’s easier to dance out than to say.”
Transcendance Opens A Facility In Lemon Grove
The dance company has grown over the years and includes new titles, such as competition; additional programs for adults, youth and junior artists; host after-school programs and organizations; moved from NTC to the city; and become a non-profit organization. Culture Shock also expanded its reach, establishing branches in Los Angeles, Oakland, Las Vegas, Chicago, Atlanta, Washington, DC. and Toronto.
“We grew like crazy in the first five years,” Bunch said. “I [dealt] with them for a while, and then I was like, ‘Put yourself away, step back and let them handle themselves.’ So we elected independent directors and they are all qualified, they are all very good.”
Like many organizations, the virus proved to be bad for Culture Shock, forcing it to close its studio. However, the company has reorganized and is back in San Diego, celebrating its 30th anniversary. He is also working on further education and is also opening a chapter in New York City.
“I’ve been thinking about how to find a place where we all speak the same language and share this experience together,” Bunch said. “Seeing these artists being strong and beautiful and beautiful, it just makes me happy.”
