The Certified Addiction Counselor exam is divided into two tests: NCAC I and NCAC II. The written exam consists of 150 multiple choice questions, and the time limit for each exam is 3 hours.
Candidates for the examination are expected to have a good knowledge of the following subjects and the tests will be graded accordingly:

To register for the exam, you must submit an application through Kryterion, the NCC AP test’s accredited partner. The initial application fee for both tests is $235. You can take the test on-site by finding a test center near you or choose remote monitoring and take the test remotely from your home or office.
Some states offer the NCAC I and NCAC II tests as part of the state certification or licensing process. If you are taking the licensing test in your state, you must get approval from your state board before registering for the tests. Once approved, your state board will provide registration information and a code. If you register without the approval of your state board, you will not be able to take the test and your fee will not be refunded.
On the day of your test, you should arrive at the testing facility at least 15 minutes before your scheduled test time. Upon arrival, you will be asked to present two pieces of valid identification, one of which must be a photo ID.
Personal items will not be allowed in the test center, so it is best to leave bags, notebooks and food at home or in the car.
Substance Abuse Counselor Course
On the day of the exam, you should log into your web server account and click on your exam, which will be listed under Scheduled Exams. Before the exam begins, you can show the remote observer two valid IDs through your webcam. The remote supervisor will also ask you to use your webcam to scan the test area.
Personal items will not be allowed on your desk/table while you are taking the exam. This includes your cell phone, notebook, and food.
To pass the NCAC I and NCAC II tests, you must get 101 out of 150 correct answers, which is a 67% correct score.
If you have already taken one of these exams as part of the state licensing process, you may be able to use your score for a national certification.
