Another favorite of ours is storing vegetables that prefer cool, dark places. Root vegetables in particular are good candidates, but double check as some do better in the fridge. For sweet potatoes and spaghetti squash, I like to keep them in the slow cooker. And these buckets have excellent performance. Dishes are very easy to clean and you won’t end up with junk all over your cabinet.

A word of warning before you attempt a staged lazy susan. Please measure and then measure again. When it comes to a circular cabinet, the pie shape is absolutely magical. But if it doesn’t fit, it won’t help you much elsewhere. I always have big plans to organize in the new year, but sometimes I get overwhelmed with the amount of space I have to do. So I decided to focus on an area that really needs it: kitchen cabinets. Some cabinets are relatively quick to organize – just take everything out, decide what will stay and what can go, and then put everything back in order. I did this for about half an hour in one day with my three taxis. But when it comes to my lazy susan corner cabinet…oh boy. I knew it needed serious work. So I found the best way to organize a lazy Susan cabinet.

Yes, everything literally spills over the sides. Random gaps in grocery bags forgotten behind the low plate. This is my secret shame.

The first thing I looked for was the containers. I needed something to hold all the little bags of different things. As I thought about different bins and containers, they all had one major drawback, which was that they didn’t work for the round lazy Susan – they were all square! Even round containers will not work. I needed a wedge shape. When I found out, I looked online in several places to see what I could find. I found the perfect wedge cleaner on Amazon!

They can be a bit pricey, but good organizational containers always are. But they last forever. I bought two sets of three and so far so good, but I may order another in the future.

When I got them, I cleaned out the closet, took things out, put things away, and then cleaned them. There were chocolate chips everywhere! What a waste I sorted it all out, mentally categorizing it as I went.

The best part about doing this cabinet organization was that I was able to organize another super messy cabinet at the same time and transfer a few things to the lazy Susan because I had a new space! I use plastic containers, paper cups, etc. I have another cabinet where I put such things, and it was literally full. I was able to transfer all my napkins and party supplies from there to the lazy Susan. Now that cabinet is very clean and not cluttered at all.

Since I only put two of the wedge pans on the bottom shelf, I had extra room for larger items that wouldn’t fit in the pan. Since there isn’t much going on, we hope it stays clean and tidy. But all spaces need to be organized and cleaned periodically. It’s nice to see what I have and what hasn’t expired.

My spice collection outgrew the containers I used, so I had a lot of empty spice bottles and jars. I made sure to group them on the same work surface so I could get exactly what I had.

Next, check for overall quality and expired spices. Most bottles have an expiration date on them. As a rule, spices last about 6 months. All spices will last longer. If the expiration date has passed, do the smell test – if there is no smell

When disposing of the contents, be sure to recycle or wash and reuse the containers. If you have a local grocery store that sells herbs + spices in bulk, they may have a program that allows you to bring your own containers from home to refill.

Like me, you might want to upgrade your organization’s inboxes. Measure your closet shelves (depth, height, diameter, etc.) so you can choose the right boxes for the space and maximize your storage space.
