The other day I had a handmade gold paint that I really liked. This was my first foray into small business ownership and I learned a lot about resources, tools, pricing strategies and basic business skills.
Although my jewelry line per se is no longer in “active production,” jewelry making is still close to my heart. It has become more of a hobby and I often reach for my tools and tinker with beads, wires and necklaces when I feel the urge to expand my jewelry collection. When it comes to accessory trends (whether it’s a new season, style or fashion accessory), I often wonder if I should buy or make my own?
That said, in today’s post I’m sharing some basic tools and equipment that I recommend if you’re just dipping your toes into the jewelry making water, along with some simple crafting techniques and some links that I love. sources of supply.

As with most hobbies, there are tools you may need “under your belt” to help bring your plans and ideas to life. The good news is that the list of tools needed for BASIC jewelry making is very short, and you can easily find everything at your local craft store, online jewelry suppliers, or (of course) Amazon.
In addition to accessories, there are a few extra pieces—often called “findings” in the jewelry world—that you need to have on hand to make items like necklaces, bracelets, or links.
This is where your creativity really shines. Think about the beauty you want to achieve. For a bohemian look, consider using natural materials like mistletoe, cotton thread, or brushed leather rope. If you want to find an elegant and sophisticated style, you should choose natural stones or ordinary pearls and gold-plated (or gold-plated) metals.

Another thing to consider when making jewelry is your budget. These small beads, chains and small crystals can be expensive, especially if you get a lot of unique results like bracelets or precious metals like 14k gold. As your skill improves, you may want to spend a little more on materials for greater durability and longevity of the parts. But if you are just starting out, I suggest investing more time than money. Buy materials that fit your budget, knowing that there may be a few “mistakes” or failed attempts when practicing jewelry making techniques.

I tend to shop and find jewelry in different places. I rarely create a piece from start to finish using materials and results from one shop. It’s more fun this way and feels like a treasure hunt for a specific item. I love picking up cute little pendants or necklaces when I randomly find them at a craft store or browsing Etsy, growing my collection over time. Many times when inspiration strikes to create a new piece, I “sell” my item to come up with a new design.

One of the main reasons I made this list is because I realized that crafting can be expensive without needing to be. This means that if you buy all the supplies for each craft, in packs of 100, to make just one, it’s not that expensive (unless you’re doing it for a party or a classroom). However, if you have the basics on hand and just need to find a few “special” supplies for that project, they can all cost pennies!

Since I started the offer and then introduced myself, I decided to create this method. Neither are those looking for complex jewelry projects with beads or metals, since they are more advanced. This is mainly used to make general jewelry and beads.
If you don’t know how to make jewelry, this book will teach you all the basics, including equipment lists, basic techniques, and totally unique jewelry making ideas!
This list is not a definitive list. The world of jewelry making is huge. My advice is to start with the basics and build up. Once you start, you’ll see what you like to do, what types of jewelry making techniques you like to do, and you should increase your stock return.
Tools are the things you use to get things done. Literally tools, although it is worth looking for those intended for jewelry, as they are very fine, good works.
Make Your Own Necklace Kit (pastels)
They come in a wide range of prices. I recommend buying mid-range devices (like the ones in the links above) and opting for high-end devices only if you feel you will need them later. You can also start with a set (which I did) that might come with some bonuses (like a set of bead picking tweezers) that you don’t normally need.
“Find” generally refers to all the metals and components that make up your jewelry. Another term is “parts”, which usually refers to unnecessary ones (like links or spaces). If you’re just starting out, stick to the basics, but maybe treat yourself to a “one” or two to get the creative juices flowing.
These all come in different metals (silver plated, silver plated, silver filled, gold plated, gold plated, bronze… the list goes on!) but I stuck to the basics. I recommend getting the gold/fabric and silver/gold tones, or choose between them.
While you can do most of these, be sure to start with one. Choose if you want more positive beads and then choose a thread. If you like pieces with a “real” and modern look, use a necklace. If your style is more trendy and colorful, then choose lace.

Pearls are a big catch for jewelry manufacturers. I keep beads that I don’t use for jewelry, like these water beads, magnets, and tetris magnets.
