Instead of making checklists, I like to “earn” the plan by writing down what we did that day in my teacher planner. Bonus Master Books are checklists used at the beginning to fill in the day and mark the lessons you’ve done (we don’t add notes).
I agree it is lighter and we usually do 2-3 pages a day instead of one.
But if the pages are lighter, feature a larger font, and have more white space, it makes it less difficult for children who have learning difficulties or feel overwhelmed.
For those who think that’s not enough, people often move up one level in their scores.
Climate Action In Language Education
We didn’t, but at the same time, I don’t use this curriculum as our only language arts. We love the life of the Brave Writer and make Charlotte Mason-inspired mugs as well as Spellings You See. I also tried the good and the beautiful, but there was too much geography in it, and we like to do the Poetry Tea Time, which is very common at TGATB, for poetry.
If you really want your kids to have books inspired by Charlotte Mason and with a biblical worldview, this curriculum delivers just that.
I love trying different curriculums to try to find the one that works best for my kids and their learning styles. I tried Living Education Math lessons for the first time because we love incorporating elements of Charlotte Mason into our homeschooling. Even though I am a non-Christian homeschooler, I found that I was able to adapt some aspects of this curriculum for my children. *Please note* I am technically a secular person when it comes to curriculum, but I am perfectly content and okay with using Christian resources if they are helpful. If you are a secular homeschooler who does not want to use Christian resources, this course is probably not for you.
Personally (our family’s choice) we do not rewrite Bible stories (I read them to my children so they have a clear worldview and understand many religions and beliefs).
Considering Homeschooling? Curriculum For Your First Year
We make some copies on this day, but use the remaining days of language learning for live learning.
All Master’s books have a story in LLP language courses and LLP mathematics courses. I can say that I read half of it. The stories in LLLE are more about the Bible than Math, I found that in Math I could change a word here and there but not in LLLE.
I couldn’t find anything that didn’t overwhelm my 4th grade daughter. This works, so I’m going with this for now.
Another reason is that many members of our family are Christians, and so I want my children to understand the Bible’s worldview. We are also happy to incorporate Waldorf-inspired teaching and include creation and Bible stories in some early grades. Every family is different, and I know Christian families who do not want their religion to be included in subjects like math or language arts. What is right for one family is not necessarily right for another.

Finally, another reason why I love this curriculum is the price. It’s inexpensive and I think it’s a great supplement or a complete language arts curriculum for kids who struggle with language arts.

****Of course there are some differences as different concepts are taught throughout the year. This is just a snapshot of the week.
There are options for reading with your child. You read the clear text and your child reads the highlighted orange text.
At the end of the story there are reading comprehension questions that you can discuss with your child, a memory passage, and an observational activity that involves reading skills.
Grammar theory is introduced to the student by writing instructions at the reading level. The student has a 2-page workbook to practice the new skill.

On page 2 of the workbook, another grammar concept is introduced and used. These 2 pages contain a short written assignment about the newly taught grammar lesson.
Each Thursday, your child will be asked to copy and memorize a verse from “101 Favorite Bible Stories.”
The child will also be asked to draw a picture of the story and copy the description below the picture.
Your child will have a worksheet with 10+ spelling words. This could be a word search, guided writing, word reading, or another similar activity.

The child is also asked to write spelling words on note cards and make ‘right brain’ cards. There is also the option to create your own dictionary using the stamp on the back of the workbook.
The biggest advantage of language lessons in terms of life education is that it comes together: reading, writing, grammar, spelling, copying, handwriting, memorization and learning pictures.
You can easily purchase a separate grammar, spelling, reading and writing course, so having it all in one place is a huge savings.
When you cover all of these lessons in one workbook, you’ll save a lot of homeschooling time!
