Β  What is this?Β Meal planning is just making a plan for what you are going to eat, not deciding what you are going to eat right now. This will include writing and preparing meals for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacks for the week. Or it can be as simple as deciding what you’re going to eat each night and making sure you have the ingredients on hand.

How To: Create A Meal Plan

Β  why did you do that? It may seem like a lot of work at first, but if you get into the habit of planning and preparing a few meals once a week, you will be surprised by the less time you use your food in your week. There will be fewer dishes to wash, too!

Weight Management – When I want to lose weight, I know the best way is to follow a meal plan. It is less stressful to decide what and how much to eat once a week, instead of deciding at every meal – it will drive you crazy!

As for food allergies – I know from over ten years of experience that following a plan is the best way to manage food allergies. And if you have some easy meals, snacks and desserts prepared and stored in the fridge, you can prepare for any occasion when people bring food to the gathering. that you are not suitable for. If you bring some of your own, no one will be embarrassed!

To save money – You can plan your meals every week according to the sale of the grocery store, and it will save you a lot. I look at the grocery store to see what meats and produce are on sale, and I use that to decide what we’re going to eat for the week.

Eat Healthy – If you want to eat healthy by eating less meat, eating more vegetables, or eating junk food – well, it won’t happen alone! You need to plan and follow it, my friend!

Save Time – By now you know I love creating recipes, making bentos, and being creative with food. But I have to admit… I hate washing dishes! I have found that one of the biggest benefits of following a meal plan is reducing the number of dishes you have to wash during the week! Sure, you’re on the weight when planning your meals for the week, but then there are a few dishes to clean. Especially if you are preparing a crock pot dinner, or a frozen dinner that you need to heat and eat. There is nothing like sleeping at night knowing that your kitchen is clean πŸ˜€

I’ve decided that once or twice a month I’ll post an actual meal plan that my family follows, so you can see how we’re doing. These are the links I have so far:

The Hand in Hand program follows a meal plan that includes weekly meal planning. I like to set the same time each week so there is no interruption in meal planning to meet our health goals for the week. Over the years, my schedule has changed quite a bit, and I adjust my meal plan each week to fit my family’s needs. I now share my meal prep and do something on Saturday, and finish it on Monday – that’s what works for me now, but I’m sure this will change, because that’s life!

In 2012, I came up with this brilliant idea to make it easier for our family to eat vegetables. Since then, there is hardly a time when we don’t have a salad in our fridge and a thick, cold bowl of greens. Many times it has saved the day when I was rushing to pack lunch but didn’t have time to cut vegetables. There are a few nights where my dinner plan doesn’t work, but a couple of bowls with our salad can make a really good meal! Read more about how to do it here:

I have written many of the details of my salads, my book, and many recipes in Fresh Lunch Salads and other food related meal prep.Β

I like to take my snacks and small meals with me when I go out. It has helped me stick to my diet, and with the food allergies we have in our family, we have some snacks that are safe to eat. I made myself a little cooler that is also a bag, which you can read about in this article:
