Mlb Rookie Of Year Odds – May is just around the corner – five days to be exact – and we think it’s a good time to talk about the American race of the year.

To be honest, before the season started, we thought that Masataka Yoshida of the Boston Red Sox would run with them. We expected Yoshida to be hot after tearing up the World Baseball Classic with Team Japan, but that wasn’t the case.

And while he’s the first to win AL Rookie of the Year, two guys — Anthony Volpe and Hunter Brown — have put themselves in the mix. We have to admit, we were very surprised. Volpe and Brown didn’t have strong starts, but Yoshida had plenty of fight. The question is, is he a legitimate threat to win AL Rookie of the Year? Spoiler alert: the answer is yes. But who is better: Volpe or Brown?

National League Rookie Of The Year: Cody Bellinger Wins Unanimously

Yoshida is a rookie in his first year in the MLB, but this is far from his first rodeo. Before signing with Boston, Yoshida spent seven seasons in the Nippon League like other Japanese players there – Shohei Ohtani, Ichiro Suzuki, Hideki Matsui, and more.

If you are not familiar with Nippon League, here is a brief overview. Among the other four major leagues in baseball – Nippon, the Mexican League, the Korean Baseball Organization (KBO) and the Chinese Professional Baseball League (CPBL) – Nippon is the best. Some say it’s the best league outside of MLB. Yes, more than Triple-A. Think of the Nippon League as a level between MLB and Triple-A…like 4A or Quadruple-A, however you want to call it.

With Yoshida hitting .327/.421/.539/.960 in the Nippon League, we were impressed. Then we see the bat fly from his bat in the WBC. Much appreciated. So, to be honest, we don’t expect Yoshida to have many, if any, fights in April. Ichiro and Matsui didn’t but Yoshida did. Does that mean he won’t have a career like theirs or win AL Rookie of the Year? Not at all. But we believe that the race will be closer than we first thought.

Yoshida was rested on Wednesday and snapped a seven-game hitting streak after winning eight of his first 12 games, but before it’s over Yoshida will need to see him continue his streak. The power is not there, of course, it can change when the weather is hot, not the speed. Again, this could change quickly, but with the line at 3.5/1, we recommend waiting and seeing how Volpe and Brown continue before betting on Yoshida.

Mlb Odds: 2023 Nl Rookie Of The Year Prediction And Pick

Volpe made headlines in March when manager Aaron Boone named the team’s 21-year-old quarterback over Isiah Kiner-Falefa. Everyone thought he would go to Kiner-Falefa, who was the Yankees every day last year, but Volpe dominated Spring Training and won the job. And before the kid played a single game in the majors, he was called the next Derek Jeter. Unexpected expectations, right? Well, maybe not.

Volpe was one of MLB’s top prospects before the season started, was called up to the Futures Game and had a minor league slash line of .263/.376/.505/.881. In addition, he is an excellent defender against the underdogs and has a success rate of 84%. However, there must be some kind of training or battle early, right?

Volpe hit under .200 last week but is starting to turn the corner. Volpe is 8-for-8 on steal attempts and has hits in three straight games and five of his last six. He still has a long way to go before he’s a threat to win AL Rookie of the Year, but he’s making progress. And with Aaron Judge patting his back and showing him the ropes, Volpe hopes to do well. But before you go for Volpe for AL ROY, wait another month and see how he hits, especially if his line drops from 5/1 to 3/1 next month.

Hunter Brown, Houston Astros (+600) The Astros have a history of making pitches, and this year is no different. Luis Garcia and Cristian Javier finished in the top three AL Rookie of the Year races in 2021, and 2020, respectively, and in the AL Rookie of the Year race and 2023 are no different than Brown. Actually, it is. Brown deserves to win AL Rookie of the Year and has the best value of anyone on the market. We’re not saying he’ll win, but we are saying that among AL rookies right now, he’s the best value at 6/1.

Brown is coming off his best start of the year on Wednesday, and he just went against the best team in Rays football. Brown gave up two hits and two walks and struck out eight to go seven scoreless innings. not bad. Neither is his 3-0 record with a 2.37 ERA in five starts.

But should we be surprised by his hot start? Maybe, maybe not. The 24-year-old was 2-0 with a 0.89 ERA in seven games (two starts) last year, so it doesn’t seem like a bad idea to sign him in 2022. But this time around he’s an everyday starter. . , he just does it well. Unlike Volpe, Brown is not a place for children. The righty struggled in his first season before being released in 2022. There are few things that predict big league success, but more importantly, Brown thought about 2022 before it was called. Here’s the bottom line – we like Brown a lot, and if his line is longer than 3/1, you should consider him. Don’t wait too long, because the line can go down quickly. Gunnar Henderson exceeded all expectations as he started the 2022 AA season with a strong finish for the Baltimore Orioles. He is the favorite to win AL ROY and will come as the guaranteed number. He is a strong defensive player and has great speed in the post. In his debut, he won his first game.

Mlb Rookie Of The Year Odds 2024: Carter, Skenes Among Likely Favorites

Henderson’s stats against MLB pitchers were solid with a .259 batting average and 16 BB to 34 SO. He showed good power with his exit velocity of 92.4 MPH and had 4 HR and 18 RBI in just 34 games played for the Orioles. He will start at SS/3B so look for the ROY favorite to be an exciting player this season if he can get it together.

Masataka Yoshida signed with the Boston Red Sox for five years, $90 million, more than Seiya Suzuki’s contract which was the largest for a Japanese player. The Red Sox are considering the future of the 29-year-old who had a big time for the Orix Buffaloes (Osaka) last year. He hit 21 HR, 88 RBI, and hit .335 while slugging .561. He has good pop in his bat for his size and is very quick in the field.

Yoshida’s greatest strength comes on the court. He is a hitter who can hit for power and average. He can hit gap-a-gap or he can get on the pitch and clear the park. He will be a great addition to the Red Sox bat and will add a ton of above-average hitting as long as he doesn’t catch a slump. If he can keep hitting, there’s no reason why he can’t hit the best in baseball. It wouldn’t be surprising to see him in the mix with AL ROY in the MLB tournament.

Anthony Volpe was ranked as one of the top prospects in 2023 and made the New York Yankees’ preseason roster. He will make his opening day tomorrow and probably hit in the ninth. It has a lot of driving power
