Naturally, France’s Victor Vembanyama is the big favorite to be Rookie of the Year next season. The 7-foot-4 generational talent heads to San Antonio, where he immediately caught the eye. Vembanyama towers over opponents with multiple guard-like abilities.
Few doubt that Vembanyama’s skills won’t transfer seamlessly enough to the NBA. Whether his body can handle both the physicality of the competition and the injuries are just small question marks. Notable past injuries to the 19-year-old phenom include a stress fracture in his fibula and an injury to the muscle that runs along the spine through the thigh to the thigh, known as the psoas.

Jalen Green Still Among Betting Favorites For Nba Rookie Of The Year

Explosive guard Scoot Henderson may not be the second overall pick, but he is in second place to be next year’s Rookie of the Year. It remains to be seen whether Henderson will share backcourt duties with Damian Lillard as rumors continue to swirl about the All-Star’s future in Portland. Whether he’s handed the keys or not, the G-League Ignite product will put up decent numbers in his rookie campaign.
The scout is 6-foot-4, 195 pounds and is often compared to Russell Westbrook. A guard is at his best when the ball in his hands is moving to the rim. His hitting needs to be more consistent to reach his potential. Last year for the Ignite, Henderson averaged over 16 points, five rebounds and six assists per game while shooting nearly 43% from the field. The stat that stands out most negatively is his three-point percentage, which is just 27.5% on 2.7 attempts per game.
We think Henderson will show some good qualities in his rookie season, but he will be a little too ineffective offensively to be the best rookie in the league.

You might not expect to see Chet Holmgren on this list, but he could win the 2024 NBA Rookie of the Year award for not playing a game last season.

We really like Miller’s performance. He is polished and athletic despite his young age, and even has a dog in him. Do we believe Brandon Miller will be named the 2024 Rookie of the Year? Not necessary, but probably worth spending some money on +1300 from FanDuel.
Amen Thompson and his twin brother Ausar are both considered to be the most sought after players in this year’s draft. Amen was selected 4th overall by the Houston Rockets, where he will play guard alongside Jaylen Green. The 6-foot-1 guard averaged nearly 16 points, six rebounds and six assists per game while playing for the Overtime Elite. One thing we noticed was that in OTE’s postseason, his averages went up in every category.

A large part of Thompson’s success in the NBA will come down to how much he can improve his jump shot, as he only made 25% of his threes last season. They should also become more efficient in the field of charity. Thompson may not put up exceptional numbers in his rookie season, but the Rockets are backing him to reach his potential.
The odds are out for the 2024 NBA Rookie of the Year, and we see it’s more than just a one-man race.
