Niagara Falls And New York City Vacation Packages – When you imagine New York, a big city with landmarks like the Empire State Building and a great food culture comes to mind! But New York State is also home to the famous Niagara Falls – one of the most impressive waterfalls in the world. In fact, people travel from all over the world just to visit this natural wonder.
I was absolutely amazed when I first saw Niagara Falls. It’s one thing to read about how amazing it is, but when you actually hear the thundering water crashing over the cliff and feel the mist, you can’t help but be mesmerized!

Niagara Falls Day Trips From New York
Niagara Falls is a beautiful geological feature created by the melting of glaciers about 12,000 years ago. These melting glaciers actually created the Great Lakes, which is why Niagara Falls sits right between Lake Ontario and Lake Erie. When the glaciers melted, the force of the water in Lakes Ontario and Erie cut through the land to create the Niagara River, which formed Niagara Falls.
It’s crazy to think of these giant lakes and rivers formed by just a melting glacier, but the geology is amazing in that sense!
As I mentioned earlier, Niagara Falls is not just one waterfall, but three! The largest and most powerful of these waterfalls is Horseshoe Falls on the Canadian side. About 90% of the Niagara River flows over Horseshoe Falls! The other two waterfalls that make up Niagara Falls are Bridal Veil Falls and American Falls. Combined, these three waterfalls create enough water to fill an Olympic-sized swimming pool every second – that’s a lot of water!

In fact, so much energy flows over these waterfalls that many of them are transferred to power plants every night. This force is used by Canada and the United States. The waterfalls lose about half their power during these periods, but return to full power in the morning when people visit them.
Niagara Falls, On By Rail
You can visit Niagara Falls from the Canadian or American side. If you want to see the Canadian side of Niagara Falls, there are some great tours from Toronto or tours from Montreal where you can see the falls from Queen Victoria Park. If youare visiting from New York, you can see the falls from Prospect Point Park, and we have some great tours below!
The two sides of Niagara Falls are connected by the Rainbow Bridge. It is very beautiful to walk across the raging river and see the falls from a different angle. Remember that when you cross the bridge, you enter another country, so carry your passport!
There are many ways to experience Niagara Falls, whether you are on the main observation deck, observation tower, ride the Maid of the Mist, or watch the nightly fireworks!
The best time of year to visit Niagara Falls is the summer months, between June and August. So if you’re planning a summer visit to New York, it’s worth planning a day trip to Niagara Falls. Although this is definitely the busiest time, it is the best time to visit weather, especially if you take a refrigerated boat to the falls!

Niagara Falls is located north of New York, about a 6.5 hour drive from the city. Most people visiting New York City don’t rent a car, so the best way to get to Niagara Falls is to take a tour! I always prefer to book tours instead of renting cars in big cities so I don’t have to navigate traffic or find parking. Some of these tours are even two-day experiences to ensure you have plenty of time at Niagara Falls!
There are usually other cool stops included in the tours that you might miss if you go it alone. Some of these tours include water boat rides on the Niagara River, a visit to Old Fort Niagara, and stops at nearby museums and state parks.

A visit to Niagara Falls is spectacular no matter how you experience it, but the trip will be truly stress-free and fun so you can enjoy the falls in all their beauty!
