Philadelphia Beauty And The Beast – “Beauty and the Beast” will be on stage at the iconic venue until December 31, and tickets for the classic production are on sale now.
According to Walnut, the show is “a magical, heartwarming story of love and hope and a holiday treat for the whole family.” It follows Belle’s classic story, ending in a magical castle with a prince living there – albeit connected to a wizard who turns her into an animal. With the help of the people who work in the house (they are all under the spell), Belle is able to help them break the curse and find true love – albeit many times and musical moments in between.

For reference, the 1991 film, directed by Gary Trousdale and Kirk Wise, features music by singer Howard Ashman and composer Alan Menken. “Beauty and the Beast” became the first animated film to be nominated for Best Picture at the Academy Awards. Following the film’s success, the first Broadway production received 9 Tony Award nominations and played 5,461 performances before its final bow in 2007. It is now playing at the Walnut so Philadelphians can enjoy this holiday season.
The Media Theatre Has Holiday Fun For Everyone
The production at the Walnut will feature a company of 25 actors and a live singer performing some of the songs the show is known for, such as “Be Our Guest,” “Beauty and the Beast” and “Belle.”
The show at the theater is directed by Glen Casale, a regular Disney favorite with productions of Rodgers + Hammerstein’s “Cinderella” and Disney’s “The Little Mermaid” under his belt. Chris Burcheri returns as Musical Director, having completed “ELVIS – A Musical Revolution” at the Walnut, and Kim Arnett as Musical Director, making her WST debut.
