Quick Fix Weight Loss Pills – With the proliferation of weight loss supplements in the market, many people are turning to these products in the hope of getting rid of unwanted weight quickly and easily. But are these supplements really a quick fix for weight loss?
Weight loss supplements can help some people jumpstart their weight loss journey or boost their metabolism, but they are not a magic solution for long-term weight control. In fact, relying solely on weight loss supplements can have negative consequences for your health.

Councils have called for a crackdown on deadly unlicensed “diet pills” which can be bought online and were linked to five deaths last year.
Websites selling “quick-fix diet pills” are popping up faster than food and could be shut down by drug safety authorities, despite five sites being pulled from the internet every day, the Local Government Association (LGA) has said.

Many of the products available contain the highly toxic chemical dinitrophenol, also known as DNP, which is legal for use in manufacturing but can effectively “microwave” the body from the inside when ingested, experts at the LGA said.
A series of recent raids has exposed a growing black market industry behind thousands of online retailers who can still legally ship many pills into the UK. The LGA said it found a makeshift diet pill factory at a targeted property in London last week.
Councils are asking for more funding for a national awareness campaign, after five people died last year after taking pills containing DNP. The LGA wants stricter penalties for those responsible for selling the pills. Currently, under the Food Safety Act, vendors can face a maximum jail term of two years.

Many diet pills help in weight loss by suppressing their appetite. Many illegal pills are sold in the online market as “herbal” and “natural” but contain dangerous ingredients. Some are sold alongside legal and safe diet pills, increasing the risk of consumers accidentally purchasing a dangerous product.

The Reductil product, which was withdrawn from the market six years ago due to concerns that the active ingredient sibutramine may increase the risk of heart attacks and strokes, has been largely seized.
However, pills containing DNP are more of a concern. The chemical increases metabolism to dangerous levels, leading to side effects such as fever, dehydration, nausea, vomiting and irregular heartbeat, the combination of which can lead to coma or death.
“Natural” and “herbal” on the label of these products do not necessarily mean “safe”, said Simon Blackburn, chair of the LGA’s Safer and Stronger Communities Board.
Those involved in the illegal supply of diet pills don’t care about people’s health – they are only interested in making money, supply of drugs like DNP should have longer sentences because they can kill people,” he said.

“Most of these diet pills are not licensed drugs and contain unknown and dangerous ingredients that seriously endanger people’s health and even cost them their lives.
“Weight loss pills should only be used on prescription and obtained from a reputable high street or registered pharmacy that can be shopped online.”
A spokesman for the government’s Food Standards Authority, the Food Safety Agency, said it was working to tackle the sale of DNP as a “so-called diet pill”.

“The Free Syrian Army National Food Crime Unit launched Operation Sycamore, a proactive initiative to directly target criminals responsible for human trafficking in the DNP.

“We have already launched a nationwide consumer awareness campaign to warn people about DNP. Service authorities cannot always take a direct approach to dealing with them, however We have succeeded in shutting down websites in close cooperation with foreign law enforcement agencies.
Eloise Amy Barry, 21, from Shrewsbury, died in hospital last April after taking diet pills bought online. Police said the tablets contained the industrial chemical DNP.
The investigation revealed that Barry died due to an accidental drug overdose. Her mother, Fiona Barry, said her daughter suffered from bulimia and evidence at the inquest suggested Miss Barry (left) sent a text message hours before her death saying she was “fearing she was going to die after eating/purging all night” and “having a shower”. “Four pills at four in the morning.”
“When I woke up I took four and after a while started throwing up, I thought I was going to die,” the Gildor university student wrote in a text message read to the inquest.
