The Fairy Tales Of Charles Perrault – Charles Perrault stands alongside Hans Christian Andersen and the Grimms as a master storyteller. He is probably less well known because what he did in the late 16th century was done by the Brothers Grimm in the mid 19th century, overshadowing what he did earlier. In fact, the Grimm brothers translated many of Peru’s stories into German and published them in their volumes. Like Dickens and Andersen in his day, in his time Perrault (1628 – 1703) was one of the most beloved actors and has remained very beloved ever since. Everyone wants a man who enjoys life. Peru was such a person and he was redundant. He was a source of joy to countless of his relatives, and his stories still promise entertainment for many more to come. We are fortunate to know more about his varied life, and derive our information chiefly from the history of the French Academy of D’Alembert and his memoirs. His interest in life led him to translate stories and legends, initially from France, but as the empire grew, he began to translate and print stories from around the world. “La Belle au Bois Dormant” (“Sleeping Beauty”) was the number that was soon followed in rapid succession – “Le Petit Chaperon Rouge” (Little Red Riding Hood), “Le Maistre Chat, ou le Chat Botté” (Puss in Boots), “Les Fées” (The Fairy), “Cendrillon, ou la Petite Pantoufle de Verre” (Cinderella), “Riquet à la Houppe” (Riquet of the Tuft) and “Le Petit Poucet” (Tom Thumb) all appear. in this book. The news quickly crossed the English Channel; and were translated by Mr. Samber (probably Robert Samber) and printed for J. Always. From Posada Nova. The first edition was very popular, evidenced by the fact that there was a seventh edition published in 1795 by Y. Rivington, bookseller in New York. Charles Perrault was a French writer who laid the foundations for a new genre of literature, fairy tales, and the most famous fairy tales, presented as if they were traditional fairy tales, include: Little Red Riding Hood, Sleeping Beauty, The Little Mermaid. Boots, Cinderella, Bluebeard, Hop or Thumb), Diamonds and Frogs, The Sick Griselda, Ludicrous Passions … Peru’s most famous stories are still published and turned into operas, ballets (eg Sleeping Beauty by Tchaikovsky), plays, music and films, Both in action and in animation. The Brothers Grimm retold their versions of some of Peru’s legends.

I never wondered why they were called myths, but now I understand. And Cinderella with SQUIRREL slippers instead of glass slippers makes a lot of sense. It’s funny how a change in language + homophones changes that part of the story. Read it as part of an attempt to read a book from the 90s every year.

Those who think they “know” the legends should spend time reading them in their original versions. These stories are surprisingly similar but also very different, they are fascinating. I especially like how the “ritual” of the story is told, in rhyme, after each story. It is in very good condition. Children’s stories from many different countries. Red cloth with a lot of gold decoration and pictures placed in front. 8 text panels. 128 pages. 7×5″.
The back and sides are cracked. Cut some dirt. The gilding on the back is not clear. Ink writing on the front of free paper. Guardians have less gold. To search for text, touch a page within the borders.
